Chapter 27

Michael looked up from his desk and saw Perry struggling to carry a tray of plants into engineering. He got up from his desk and went over to help with the tray. “Perry what are you doing, in engineering with a tray of plants? Water is banned here.”

Perry handed Michael the tray. “Commodore Ipinik ordered a tray of these plants. They don’t need water to survive.”

“Well, if Ipinik approved them, where do you want them?”

Perry pulled out his pocket tablet and read the screen. “Engineering room 3T.”

Michael raised an eyebrow, “3T? That’s my experiment office, why would Ipinik send you there?”

“Because I want you to expand your ideas and use these plants.” Ipinik’s booming voice came from behind them.

Michael jerked around, “Sir, I didn’t see you there.”

“No worries Jones, let’s just get to the room and I will explain your assignment.”

They all made their way into engineering room 3T.

Michael placed the tray of plants on the desk, and Ipinik locked them inside the room.

“The higher-ups are impressed with your work on the alloy and would like you to do more work. I told them you had an interest in plants, so I called in one of the top budding Botany Cadets to assist you.” Ipinik stated.

Michael turned his gaze to Perry. “Perry, you’re one of the top Botany cadets?”

Perry modestly scratched his head, “It’s not something I brag about, but yes I am.”

You learn something new every day. Michael thought.

“Good you two know each other, that will make things easier. The assignment is to develop a plant that can benefit the war and the soldiers. It could be a weapon or a new set of rations. Put your minds together and create something.”

Perry smiled with glee. “Oooo it is a genetic engineering assignment, these are my favorite.”

“Have fun you two, I have faith in you.” Ipinik unlocked the door and then left the two alone.

Michael turned to Perry, “So plants?”

“Plants,” Perry smiled excitedly.
